Low-income help
If you have low-income and assets, you may be able to get help with your Medicare healthcare costs with one or more of the programs explained below. California’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal, pays for some care that Medicare doesn’t, and helps pay the cost-sharing for things Medicare does cover. The Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs) also pay for some of Medicare’s cost-sharing, such as the Medicare Part B monthly premium ($96.40 in 2008). Extra help with Medicare’s Part D prescription drug costs is available as well.
